Marriage Counselling Is Not For Dummies!
_Thankfully, no Marriage Counseling For Dummies book has been invented…yet. If it had, could you imagine what it might contain? Probably some sort of sophomoric advice on how to provide assistance to couples feeling the heat of a stressed marriage. Some clichéd comments about “just loving each other should be enough”?
On the other hand, a marriage counseling book for those of us short on brainpower, who struggle with simple relationship issues etc, may not be such a bad thing after all. No, it wouldn't teach marriage counseling per se, but it could teach us how to have a better marriage, steps to take, things to consider and what might work and what might not and why.
Perhaps the marriage counseling book could have several useful chapters including:
How to say the right words to your spouse at the right time, as well as what those right words might be.
What to do when your spouse says that they no longer love you, and how to manage yourself and your feelings.
How to end the downward slide in any marital relationship and what signs to look for.
How to motivate your spouse to want to participate in talking to a marriage counselor.
Romantic ideas to boost and add spark to your marriage.
How to improve and revitalise your sex life.
Valuable tips to help save your marriage.
When love is not enough.
Okay, you get the picture. Everyone wants marriage counseling that can make a difference.
How about you? Can you think of additional chapters in a book about marriage counseling that could assist and could inspire you?
On the other hand, no book can save a marriage by itself. The union of two people is actually a union of two personalities, two backgrounds, two interests, two experiences of the world, etc. The two people have to work at negotiating and compromising.
A relationship can work best where the two people are open and communicate between each other. Being able to express most feelings and needs, will create a healthier environment and provide a role model for other relationships.
Though this is an ideal scenario and in reality there will more than likely be ups and downs created by the individuals themselves or the people or environment surrounding them, these factors are keys to the relationship working for the long term with both parties feeling a sense of satisfaction and happiness.
Sometimes these ways of relating are not innate and require some learning. This is where reading about relationship help or seeking professional advice and assistance with a relationship can benefit a struggling or same old relationship from deteriorating further or completely.
Marriage counseling is a great idea especially if both parties in the relationship agree that it can be a useful tool to help them recapture the love that should be in their marriage or a couple’s relationship.
Couples can get marriage counseling through a variety of sources. Starting somewhere whether it be through self help books or through a marriage counsellor will help them lead to receiving some information that will help them to make the choices that best suit the parties in the relationship.
It can lead them to the choice of keeping things the same as they have been and making no change or that of living together more happily and more successfully.
